Not the worst I've read, but by no means the best either. The characters are immature and the males in particular are so unrealistic that they seem to come from a sixteen year-old's wishlist. Overly sweet pet names, far too much kissing of hands and other gestures that reached the point of sacchrine overload, and female characters who are annoying, entitled, shrews. The writer needs a good editor who can help her flesh out characters, story and motivation, and who won't let her take the easy way out. There were two huge nits for me in this book that involved characterization and story in general.

1. Women, it is not our God-given right to hit men. I'm sorry, but I draw the line at any woman who thinks that because they have a vagina and a sense of entitlement that men have to accept getting punched in the face, poked in the chest, and generally physically abused. The idea that anyone, male or female, feels so entitled that they get to punch, poke, or otherwise abuse another person is utterly childish and ridiculous that I lost complete respect for the writer. It doesn't work this way. Your vagina is not your get out of jail free card. It does not give you the right to strike another human being. The idea the writer felt it does makes me question her age, and even worse, her maturity level.

2. Even though is a fictional character, I wanted to hunt her down and personally revoke her CHL (concealed handgun license) from her. A CHL is a huge thing. It means that someone with the authority to issue it felt you were responsible enough to handle something that huge. A handgun is not a toy. You don't simply forget it. You don't leave it behind and think, oh, darn, I forgot my handgun. Again. You don't treat it like it's not dangerous and to be left wherever you toss your purse. I lost count after the third time the main character was like, oops, I did it again, I left my handgun somewhere and oh dear, can someone bring it to me? No no no no no no. Honey, while you were smacking around the man in your life, someone should have smacked you around for being an idiotic irresponsible airhead not fit for a CHL.

Beyond that, honestly, the plot was confusing. Her ex wants to kill her. Her ex tries to have her killed more than once. Because HE has gambling debts. He eventually kidnaps her in the hopes of holding her for ransom. What? How was he going to collect money off her earlier if she were dead? I am just utterly confused about all of this. It just made no sense to me at all.

All the siblings have "gifts," supernatural gifts to be more exact. I get that if you have these gifts then trust could be a huge thing. If you have these gifts, then you should also have the maturity to deal with the fallout of them if you're, oh, 30 years old and have been carrying around this baggage since you were a child. Throwing a hissy fit because you reveal this secret to a man you've known less than a month and who has no way of processing it other than disbelief and shock, I question whether you're mature enough to handle this gift anymore than you are a CHL. I expected the hero to be freaked out. Shocked. Disbelief. I also expected the heroine to understand that he's having to come to grips with something she's had most of her life to process. I didn't enjoy that she threw a pity party and made it all about her. Wait, what was I thinking? Of course she would. Never mind.

Intuition Bennett Sisters series Book 1 edition by Kate Allenton Romance eBooks Reviews

I have to say I was skeptical about this when it popped up on my recommended list. It is not what I would normally choose, but I thought I would give it a try. I was happily surprised by the way I was drawn in to the story. Obviously this is not a reality based novel. (Thank Heavens!!) Of course, that's not why I read romance novels. The only thing that disturbed me was the short "courtship" of Jake and Emma. It was a little creepy to have him basically see her and decide that she was the one for him. That's just my opinion and others may think it's sweet but I can't wrap my brain around it, even for some escapist reading. I highly recommend that you take a chance with this one. The pacing is well done and there are enough twists to keep you engaged in the story.
Start by saying I don't know this author, (I often think the first couple reviews are plants, not that I blame the authors for trying to get readers!), and I enjoyed this book. It could use some editing, but overall well written and you do care about the characters. The story is light and a bit far fetched but overall a good effort! I will read the next one, probably even pay a few bucks for it if needed. )
Cafe owner Emma Bennett has a secret, as all the Bennett siblings do, she see's the dead - actually only one dead person, Momma Mae who has haunted her since she was a child. Emma is used to Mommma Mae and she always lets her know when something bad is going to happen. Emma has her own radar whenever something bad is going to happen to her or anyone of her siblings. She immediately contacts them when she gets her feelings.

Emma has just broken off her relationship with her boyfriend because she caught him cheating on her. Her life is going to get more exciting with a new man on the horizon and someone trying to kill her. Thank goodness for Mamma Mae.

Jake Donavan is visiting North Carolina and got in touch with his old friend Mike Bennett, he didn't know Mike has sisters and Emma is definitely worth getting to know. But there are problems, a fire at their favorite Mexican restaurant almost causes Emma and her sister to be hurt when they are followed and attacked by a knife welding madman.

I liked the story and plot, the writing is good but Emma was too indecisive and impulsive - if you are in a house with tight security because someone is after you, you don't leave and go some place else, just because you heard someone say something you don't like. Considering all the Bennett girls can shoot and usually keep a gun with them as well as being trained to defend themselves, Emma's actions are not reasonable.

I will probably read all of these, hopefully the rest of the family is better grounded.
Intuition is a book that has everything in it that makes a fantastic book. It has a bit of romance, a bit of mystery, and a bit of the paranormal. It kept me turning the pages, wanting to know what happens next. We meet Emma Bennett, the owner of a cafe, and of a deep secret. She can see and talk to the dead. From childhood she has been visited by a ghost that she calls Momma Mae, an elderly lady who loves to visit and chat with her. Unfortunately, no one else can see her. Momma Mae also warns Emma of danger. Someone is trying to kill Emma, and only her brother's best friend, Jake, can help her. Of course, Emma falls for Jake. And eventually they figure out who is out to kill Emma. I would give this book 5 stars, but the typos are horrendous. There's also the occasional formatting problem. I would gladly proofread the book, and send a list of typos to the author. Free of charge.
