Usually I love Kenyon's novels but this one fell far short of the mark. This seemed like a filler novel she threw together to fill in back story and tell us about the Daimon's "real lives". There was a LOT of explanation about the Daimon history, lives and a great deal of whine whine to make us feel sorry for their plight but little else to recommend it. I can see why such a novel was necessary for the whole story arc, but I wish Kenyon had spent more time on it than she did. The main male character, Wulf, was more like a boring accountant who probably tracks his children's bowel movements than a Dark Hunter. The female character wept and cried a lot, and not much else. The fight scenes were barely touched on. I remember one passage where (and I can't quote) Wulf walked into a room and she was fighting the Daimons....she was making a good show of it and he'd never been more proud. Proud of what? What was she doing? Can we have some more description of the Action, please! Very one-dimensional characters and though a few new ones were introduced who will, hopefully get a better story than this one.

All in all, definitely NOT my favorite DH novel and hopefully, we'll never see these two again. Though at this rate, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just chugging along because I want to get to Acheron's story and don't want to feel lost seeing story arcs and characters I don't understand.

Also, I have to say this: Kenyon tends to write Very Alpha Males and Very Weak Females (even when she's telling us they're "strong" or Warriors their Actions don't show this). I'm hoping by the time I get to the end of this series, Kenyon will have gotten with modern times and given us a Real Female Warrior who can actually kick butt instead of just telling us how strong they are. If I can make it to the end of the series. One more book like this and one more Character like Cassandra, I may hang it up.

Kiss of the Night DarkHunter Book 5 Sherrilyn Kenyon 9780749907419 Books Reviews

I ordered this book because sent me an email suggesting it, touting"New from Sherrilyn Kenyon". I have all the Dark Hunter series and League series. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon. I only realized later that the book was the same one I purchased in 2004 in paperback. did not mention that it was a reprint in hardcover. My fault, I'll admit. Unfortunately, wouldn't let me return the book because I was a few days over the return limit. I have a huge stack of books waiting to be read and I had just reached this one in the pile.

The book itself was great. I highly recommend the author. Her earlier Dark Hunter books were a much better read than the newer ones that seem to recycle the content a bit. But I'm a true fan and I buy and read everything she writes. I'm an Acheron addict!

usually delivers with great customer service. This time I'm a little disappointed they wouldn't let me return the item, but I should have read the details better and not just ordered based off of their suggestion.

Kiss of the Night is another great book in the Dark-Hunter series. With it, yet again, Kenyon has shown that she is a master at world building and timeline manipulation. It didn't quite measure up to Dance with the Devil though IMO. Wulf is no Zarek!

As a hero Wulfe was fine. He just didn't really appeal to me. He was way overprotective and overbearing. Though his reason for being so overprotective is understandable it was just too much for me. A person could go insane with it. I would never want to be an apple on his family tree.
Cassandra on the other hand was just great. She was strong and fierce. I loved the way that she stood up to Wulfe and opened his eyes. She's the first Appollite that we've come across that takes a leading role in the series so far. Because of this Kenyon took it as a way to expand our knowledge of the Appollite and Daemond races. The world that Kenyon has created is so complex and rich. This additional information just proves it even more.

The timeline for this book was something that you don't come across normally. Especially in a series. It started at the same time Night Embrace did yet ended after Dance with the Devil. I really liked that. I often wondered about how Ash would or could deal with his Hunters that were spread world wide while dealing with an important situation. Because of the timeline we see that in this book. We feel Wulfe's frustration at not being able to talk to Ash when we as readers (who've followed the series thus far) know that he's dealing with crap in New Orleans with Talon or stuck with the queen bitch goddess Artemis.

There was one part of the book that I felt was missing. Or should I say a scene? It dealt Cassandra's sister Phoebe. Without being too spoilerish all as I can say is that Pheobe's part in the big battle was lacking. When I read the scene that took part after the fight, in her apartment, I was all like WTF? When did that happen?

One of my favorite scenes in the book was just before the final showdown. I love it when characters from past books make appearances. To fully appreciate it though you need to have read the books that these characters starred in. So while yes, this book can stand alone I suggest reading the series in order.

With kick a$$ fighting scenes and love scenes that will leave you squirming in your seat Kiss of the Night is a book that you'll definitely want to read.
Another great book in the Dark-Hunter series! The love story was nicely done, and both Cassandra and Wulf were great characters. My only minor complaint is that some of the dialogue was awkward and stilted, the modern references were unnecessary (Britney Spears, etc. I always hate that in a book, it makes it feel so dated), and the book had a few editing problems (for example, in Elysia, one of the Apollites was called a Daimon). Other than that, the book was terrific. I especially liked how Sherrilyn Kenyon made Apollites and Daimons more, for lack of a better word, human. I really can't believe how many more books Ms. Kenyon can write, and how many directions she can go into, with the world(s) she has created - it could go on forever - or at least we can hope so! )
