Enchanted Desire edition by Paul Lonardo Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

My rating is based solely off my preferences in stories. This book was very well written, gave great scene development and was pretty good with character development considering the length. I was excited to read a book that took on the Native American traditions and beliefs, but soon found that this was going to be a book that is fundamentally based on a “dream” element. This was a turn off for me.

Shanna was coming off of a devastating time in her life, so she pretty much discarded all of it for a new start. Her new beginning didn’t start out smoothly but even with her depression she forced herself to go shopping with her sister.

She encounters Kenny who teaches at BU and there is that instant chemistry and attraction going on. He informs her that he is about to engage in a rebirth, which brings in the Native American heritage and man does she need a rebirth as well.

I believe people who love short stories that really doesn’t give you an ending of absolute, yet not a cliff hanger either, will really enjoy this escape. The passion is hot and the characters are intriguing. While it lacks in long term substance that I love in most plots, this does provide for that occasional need to leave reality and be swept away into a world of erotic chemistry. Just don’t confuse it for romance because this is not the book for that. I am not at all sorry I read this book and will be looking for more work from this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Shanna is a likable character, I liked her a lot. She is a young woman who is in a relationship that is not working for her, though she has been dreaming of a sexy stranger. Whilst on a shopping spree with her sister Courtney, she meets Kenny Honana and her life will never be the same again.

Kenny Honana is a professor at Boston University and is about to go on a vision quest. Unfortunately, I found this character to not be as well developed as I would have liked. Therefore, I struggled to connect with him.

This story is told through the eyes of Shanna and is a quick, sexy read. And although I enjoyed it, I am sorry to say that I found myself slightly disappointed with it too. The premise was interesting, but I felt the execution left something to be desired. Granted, I prefer to read erotic romances rather than erotica and I felt that the story was sadly lacking in romance. The main characters have an instantaneous connection and the heat factor was scorching. Although I enjoyed the dream sequences, I would have loved it if the characters had more interaction in the physical world more than once. I did enjoy meeting Courtney, as she seems to have a great sense of humour and is a wonderful foil for Shanna's more serious persona.

Not being American, I have an interest in Native Americans and their beliefs and artifacts. The author introduces the reader to a few artifacts of the Hopi in the form of Kachinas. One of them is Kokopelli, which plays an important role in marriage and fertility. He also introduces the use of Native American magic. The author used these and other artifacts to good effect, though it did mean I had to stretch my beliefs slightly. If someone did come up with a way to enchant dildos that way, they would make a fortune!

I reached the end of the story and felt that it was left ambiguous with a happy for now ending rather than a HEA. Nevertheless, it still left me feeling slightly disappointed that it wasn't longer.

Paul Lonardo has written an interesting erotica novella. I enjoyed his fast paced writing style and the story flowed okay. Although erotica is not my usual genre, I would consider reading more of his books in the future.

Due to scenes of an explicit nature, I do not recommend this book for readers under the age of 18. However, I recommend this book if you love quick, erotic reads with sexy characters. - Lynn Worton
Holy smokes!

This was a book unlike any other I have read. It's my 2nd Paul Lonardo romance, and I knew it was gonna be good!

I was interested to see how Paul worked Native American concepts into the story. It's not a topic widely written about in the romance genre (that I've seen, anyway), so that was very intriguing to me. He used the angle of "Native magic" perfectly, and it added a very cool and unique element to this story.

There are definitely some fiery parts in this story of enchanted desire! I don't think I'll ever look at Native magic in the same way again!

And can I just say that Shanna's sister, Courtney, was hysterical! I loved every word that came out of her mouth and felt she contrasted nicely with Shanna's more sober persona.

I, personally, would have liked it if Shanna and Kenny had a few more encounters to build the tension and developed at least some type of rapport before their first major encounter, and the romantic in me would have loved a Happily Ever After ending. But, the emotions conveyed between Kenny and Shanna left no question about their feelings for each other, and I'll take the Happy for Now ending and patiently wait for Paul's next awesome romance!
